Cross Day

The Festival of the May Crosses in Santa Cruz de La Palma is a tradition of deep devotion and community gathering, where neighbors carefully decorate crosses located along old paths and emblematic spots in each neighborhood, using flowers, colored paper, seeds, fabrics, and jewelry. This celebration, combining creativity and local pride, recalls the old custom of adorning the most prominent crosses with gold and silver pieces brought by emigrants, who would spend the night in vigil alongside their neighbors.
