In La Palma it is possible to enjoy unique experiences, which will remain in the memory of the visitor long after their trip to Isla Bonita. Photographing seas of clouds, seeing one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Canary Islands, or experiencing a carnival like no other in the world, are just some of the experiences that make this destination unforgettable.
Fall in Love with a Sunset
La Palma is a unique place to celebrate love. Whether on a honeymoon, on Valentine's Day or on a special date, Isla Bonita offers a multitude of romantic corners, and endless activities to do as a couple. Enjoying the magic of a beautiful sunset when the sky changes from yellow to orange and red, succumbing to the dark blue of the night, is a unique experience that in La Palma can be enjoyed in a wide variety of locations such as the Time Viewpoint, or Llanos del Jable Viewpoint, without forgetting the coast of Los Llanos de Aridane or Fuencaliente as well as any point in the municipalities of Tazacorte, Puntagorda, Tijarafe or part of Garafía. And, of course, the Roque de los Muchachos.
Photographing a Sea of Clouds
Photography lovers will also find an oasis for creativity in La Palma. The green of its forests, the blue of its waters, the white of the salt flats or the darkness of the volcanic lands or the magnificence of its night sky...everything on this island captures the gaze and the objective.
From the famous Sea of Clouds to the cloud cascades descending the slopes of the mountains; passing through fairytale villages such as El Tablado or Las Tricias; traditional and local prints such as the curious enclave of Porís de Candelaria. Not forgetting the green laurel forests or the contrast of the volcanic black with the white of the salt in Las Salinas de Fuencaliente. The list is infinite. Pure creativity for photographers.
Eating in the Midst of a Forest
In the middle of the forest, next to the sea or in the mountains, in La Palma it is possible to enjoy a meal outdoors, thanks to the multiple recreational areas enabled for spending a pleasant day with the family.
Surrounded by pine trees or Monteverde, at the foot of a beautiful beach, or near a volcano, a blanket and a basket with provisions are enough to enjoy a picnic in dream locations, such as those that can be found in the recreational areas of Laguna de Barlovento, El Fayal or San Antonio del Monte.
Experiencing Unique Festivities
Palmerian pilgrimages are a fundamental part of the festivities held on the island. Relevant is the one that takes place every 5 years on the occasion of the Descent of the Virgin of the Snows, or the one that takes place on the occasion of the festivities of the Virgin of the Pine in El Paso or that of Socorro. Each municipality has one (or more) pilgrimages. The most original celebrations of the destination include, for example, the Fiesta de San Antonio del Monte that every year populates the surroundings of the Hermitage of San Antonio del Monte with crafts, livestock and local food. The Almond Tree Festival, in Puntagorda, marks the prelude to the Palmerian carnivals and the first talcum powder. Los Indianos, on Carnival Monday, is the most anticipated holiday, since everyone dresses up as Cubans who imitate the Canarians who returned from the Pearl of the Caribbean in the early twentieth century, with talcum powder being the main element.
Other notable festivities are the Caballos Fufos, the Caballos Fuscos, Moors and Christians the Feast of the Crosses and Corpus Christi, as well as El Diablo and the Descent of the Virgen de las Nieves.
Stop to Breathe and Enjoy
Above all, La Palma is a place to stand and breathe. Either on foot or getting out of the car on some of the many scenic roads that run through its orography, such as the iconic Las Mimbreras route (LP 109), the visitor will find on this island a quiet and leisurely corner, where time seems to have stopped.
The mind is also important. La Palma is also an outdoor spa where the energy of the sea, the land and the air recharge the body with the force of nature. An oasis of rest in which the fine and careful craftsmanship of the Palmerians adds the icing on the cake thanks to its high-quality products and perfect finishes.
