Las Cruces de Mayo

Each year, some municipalities in La Palma dress up for the traditional Fiesta de la Cruz. During this festival, the old crosses along the royal roads of the eastern comarca's neighborhoods are adorned with care and creativity. Towns such as Breña Alta, Breña Baja, Santa Cruz de la Palma, and Villa de Mazo stand out for the splendor of their crosses, which are decorated for months with flowers, colored papers, seeds, fabrics, and jewels. The locals, with great dedication, work as a team to ensure that their neighborhood's cross shines with special magnificence. Additionally, on the night of May 2nd to 3rd, devotees remain vigilant next to the crosses on makeshift benches.
