September 2025
During the San Miguel Arcángel Festival in Villa de Mazo, La Palma, the tradition of Los Caballos Fufos is celebrated, a festivity that has been held for over a hundred years in the Villa and Puerto de Tazacorte. The horses dance to the rhythm of “Vuela, Vuela, Palomita,” an adaptation of a Mexican corrido. This tradition, originating from Cuban carnivals and brought by returning Palmeros, was incorporated into the September festivities in honor of San Miguel. In addition to the horses, colorful characters such as the donkey, which collects donations to fund next year's party, participate in the event. Although traditionally only men danced, in recent years women have also started to take part in the festivities.
