Cycling route in La Palma

An uphill cycle to Roque de los Muchachos

The quiet narrow Barlovento road, in the north of La Palma, is the start off point for this 127 kilometre cycle which crosses La Palma from north to south. Along the cycle wonderful laurel forests and agricultural areas in the municipality of Garafía can be enjoyed until the cyclist reaches the hard 15 kilometre climb to the Observatory of Roque de los Muchachos, the highest point of the island with its stunning view of the dramatic walls of the Taburiente crater which makes the effort all the more worthwhile.

A final descent to the salt mines in Fuencaliente

On the way back and at the junction of the L-P1 road, continue along the steep terrain of the northwest as far as El Time viewpoint, in Garafía, a sharp descent which goes through the mouth of Las Angustias ravine and crosses the banana groves of Los Llanos de Aridane and several villages where food and provisions can be obtained. There is then an easy climb to Los Canarios, the highest area in the south of La Palma, which leads to the final descent, a landscape marked by the impressive volcano of Teneguía, the lighthouse and salt mines of Fuencaliente
