Experience Nature Up Close: La Laguna de Barlovento and La Fajana

Located at an altitude of 650 meters, this crater is surrounded by a pine forest, around a large lagoon where endemic birds swim, many of them protected species. In addition to having a large camping area where you can enjoy a day of picnicking , a children's area and a multi-adventure field, the area is located in the middle of the Island Network of Trails, so it is possible to take different routes. Currently you can sleep in some of the cabins that it houses as well as do camping, although you have to apply for a permit. It will soon also house a large caravan park.
For those who prefer to enjoy the wonderful waters of Isla Bonita, in Barlovento you can find the natural pools of La Fajana. Easily accessible, this set of three pools is ideal for children as it is protected from the waves, and its waters are crystal clear and calm. The complex also has restaurants where you can enjoy good fresh fish and a caravan parking lot.

Charming Viewpoints: La Tosca and Sanmao
Very close to the town center of Barlovento, just above the small hamlet of La Tosca, stands one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the island: La Tosca viewpoint. Located 700 meters above sea level, from this enclave you can see some of the most impressive cliffs on the island. Photography lovers will also be able to see one of the largest concentrations of drago trees in the archipelago up close and capture the strength of the sea on the north coast.
One of the most beautiful routes on the island is walking the part of the Camino Real GR130 that connects Barlovento and Garafía. On this route, visitors will find deep ravines and cliffs, part of which make up the Guelguén Special Natural Reserve. In addition to the Reserve, the Barrio de la Tosca, the impressive viewpoint, the hamlets of Gallegos and Franceses and even Santo Domingo de Garafía, stand out at this stage.
Another of the best known viewpoints is the one that the municipality dedicated to the Taiwanese writer Echo Chen, better known as Sanmao who, after falling in love with this island, set one of her works in La Palma.
Finally, for the most nostalgic, the roads of Barlovento, such as the LP-109 through Las Mimbreras , allow you to travel through time through tunnels dug directly into the rock. There are also good hiking options such as those mentioned, or the one that leads to the Refugio de los Gallegos.
