The Dance of the Devil

The Danza del Diablo is the highlight of the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria festival in La Palma, held in the early hours of September 8th. This event, which began in 1923, features a devilish figure that launches fireworks, preceded by giants and big-headed figures that disrupt the festival without warning. The climax of the event is the explosion of the Devil's head, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. This unique celebration has been recognized as a Cultural Heritage Asset since 2007 and was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands in 2011.
