13 to 14 December
La Palma
The Geminids, one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year, will light up the skies of La Palma between December 13 and 15, with their peak on the night of December 13 to 14 around 1:00 a.m. From a radiant in the constellation Gemini, up to 120 meteors per hour can be observed under the excellent stargazing conditions the island offers. Unlike other meteor showers, these shooting stars originate from fragments of the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, traveling at speeds of up to 40 km/s. Additionally, as part of AstroFest, the SODEPAL Astronomical Outreach Program will broadcast this phenomenon live. A unique opportunity to enjoy the skies of La Palma, recognized as some of the best in the world.
